Since 2003, Diamond in the Ruff Pet Retreat has redefined the concept of pet boarding. Founded by Janice and TJ Hunter, our mission was simple: take the guilt out of boarding your dog. By combining 30+ years of professional grooming expertise with a background in millwrighting, farming, and dog training, we built a facility that prioritizes both structural excellence and compassionate care.
Located on 10 acres of lush, forested landscape, your dog doesn’t just “stay” with us—they thrive. Our expansive grounds allow for socialization, trail walks, and the freedom to run in a safe, secure environment. We have designed every inch of our facility to cater to the highest standards of hygiene and pet welfare.

Janice & T.J. Hunter
Founders & Proud Parents
Married in 2002, Janice and TJ opened Diamond in the Ruff shortly after. Janice brings 30+ years of grooming expertise (starting with her mobile business “Silversnips”), while TJ’s background as a millwright and dog trainer ensures the retreat runs like clockwork. They are active in every aspect of the business today.
Kirsten — Manager
Exotics & Off-Site Specialist
A Zoology graduate and former Zookeeper of six years. Kirsten manages our Cat Corner and exotic guests with unparalleled attention to detail.
Tino — Canine Specialist
Kinder Collegiate Training
Hailing from Mexico, Tino ran a training facility for 10 years specializing in scent and protection for police work. Expert in dog body language.
Maddy — Supervisor
Advanced Training Skills
Maddy coached 30+ junior handlers in adoption assessments. Her skill with behavioral problems ensures every boarder goes home happy.
Owen — Care Team
Bachelors in Biology
A calm, skilled demeanor. Owen is a biologist and aspiring pilot who connects deeply with animals of all sizes, from dogs to backyard mallards.
Hailey — Social Media
Dog Walking & Care Specialist
Hailey’s compassion stems from growing up with breeds ranging from Chihuahuas to Dobermans. She keeps our community engaged online!
Stephanie — Grooming
Creative Grooming Expert
Expert since 2017. Stephanie specializes in creative grooms (mohawks/dyes) and has a knack for remembering every dog’s personality.
